In the little town of Walton, Georgia, everybody knows your name - but no one knows your secret.
At least that's what Lane Kent is counting on when she returns to her hometown with her five-year-old son. Dangerously depressed after the death of her husband, Lane is looking for hope. What she finds instead is a dead body.
Lane must work with Walton's newest deputy Charlie Lynch, to uncover the truth behind the murder. But when that truth hits too close to home, she'll have to decide if saving the life of another is worth the cost of revealing her darkest secret.
My Thoughts
I love a good romantic suspense, and Natalie Walters' debut novel was a great little mystery!
When Lane discovered the dead body less than five pages into the book, I thought, "Yep, this is going to be an exciting one!" The mystery had a lot of suspects, and held my interest until the end.
I appreciate novels that are gutsy in tackling tough subjects, and Natalie Walters did a great job with this one. She was unafraid to tackle depression, PTSD, and mental health struggles from a Christian perspective.
I loved Lane's son, Noah. His precocious little personality added sparkle to the story, and Lane's slightly-more-unique role as a mom was relatable. Charlie is a manly, noble hero fully deserving of that title. He could be called too perfect, and you don't REALLY get to know him deeply, but this story is on the lighter side and more plot-driven so it doesn't stand out too much.
I am really looking forward to Book 2 of the Harbored Secrets series, releasing in November!
Need a page-turning romantic suspense to take on vacation this summer? Look no further!
I give it 4.5 stars.
