Covington, LA: Weekend Getaway

Daniel and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary on April 28, and the following weekend we headed to Covington, LA--one of our favorite local places to get away and relax. Located right across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans, it has a quaint history and peaceful vibe all its own.
We've stayed at the Southern Hotel twice now, and we love it. They've earned the title "Covington's Living Room" and book up very quickly, especially in the spring. The Southern was built in 1907 and reopened its updated doors in 2014.

The hotel boasts the stunning Cypress Bar and the Gloriette, a graceful, brand-new French restaurant. We had brunch at the Gloriette and can't recommend the chocolate biscuits and avocado toast enough.

(Is it any wonder every girl in Covington wants to host wedding weekend festivities here?)
Now, for a quick list of our favorite things:
Dinner at Del Porto Ristorante for an authentic and out-of-this-world Italian experience. It's across the street from the hotel, so walking is fun. Time your reservation for cocktail hour in the hotel Cypress bar and then walk over for a later dinner.
Breakfast or afternoon tea at The English Tea Room for a small restuarant that oozes British goodness. They boast over 200 different kinds of tea, and their high tea food options and hearty pub fare alike are delicious. The scones are divine, and Daniel always requests that we stop here.
Live Music and Jazz Club
Farmer's market and art festival
Antique shops and boutiques (almost all within walking distance)
Cafe Du Monde for cafe au lait and beignets. Late night takeout for the WIN! Not as iconic as NOLA, but the taste is the same.
Hoodoo Ice Cream (haven't made it here yet but it comes highly recommended)
Pyre Provisions for a unique BBQ experience
The Abita Springs Brewery for tours and tastings. We did this in 2019 and had a blast.

Coffee:
Coffee Rani
St. John's Coffee House (not the best we've ever had but convenient when walking downtown)
Cured on Columbia
